By now we have all heard of essential oils. When I hear that word I think of lavender and peppermint and my hippy Grandma. I was pretty sure there was only a handful of these oils but I soon realized I was totally wrong. There is a whole world out there with different plants, fruits and vegetables. Each one of them has unique properties and benefits. We can extract some form of oil from most of them. So you can imagine that there a couple hundred different types of oils on the market. Coconut oil, sunflower oil, castor oil, you name it there probably is an oil produced from it. One oil I was unaware of until recently was something called Ylang Ylang. It conjured up the idea of Ying and Yang when I first heard it and in a way that is what it does. It helps to create a sense of harmony with those who use it.
Ylang Ylang is found in most parts of South East Asia and is extracted from the Ylang Ylang tree’s flowers via steam. I always wonder how people figured out how to extract oils, like who thought about using steam to get the oil out of the flowers? In any case someone had figured it out and we are reaping the benefits.
In recent years there has been a flood of cosmetic products boasting about its Ylang Ylang content. This is mainly due to the fact that Ylang Ylang has some amazing properties for your skin but also your mind. The fragrance is pleasant and is used a lot in Aromatherapy and perfumes. This why many claim that it works well as a anti-depressant. The pleasant smell can help your mind relax and put you at ease thus minimize anxiety and stress that can cause depression. It also has the ability to boost one’s mood which again can assist in keeping depression at bay.
It also is a great anti-septic. If you get a cut or abrasion of any kind you can add a little Ylang Ylang oil to help clean the wound and accelerate the healing process. It also keeps it protected from becoming septic and causing more damage to your body.
There are those that swear by Ylang Ylang as an aphrodisiac. The claim is that the oil can help re-ignite the libido in couples that have lost interest due to stress or busy schedules. You will find that a lot of companies will add the oil to lubricants for this reason. I myself have put this to the test and although I am no scientist can attest to the validity of this claim.
To summarize Ylang Ylang oil can really affect your life in a positive way. Whether you are using it for its Aromatherapy properties or its medicinal properties, Ylang Ylang and improve the quality of your life in a big way. Most health food stores will carry some version of the oil and it isn’t too expensive. If you are interested in seeing how this oil can benefit you, go out and buy a bottle.
